Notes
from the Director of Music, Daniel Aune:
Well, here we are… one month into 2012. If you are like me, you’ve
found that your New Year’s resolution was either unrealistic from
the beginning or that your enthusiasm has already waned. But at
least I’m not alone on this. Studies have shown that between 88-92%
of New Year’s resolutions are never achieved. However, it’s always
nice to set goals and to dream.
So, I’m inviting you to make a new resolution. This will be a
simple resolution that anyone can follow through on and count
as a success. I’m inviting you to make a resolution to become
more involved in the ministries at Christ Church. This may sound
like a big commitment, but it’s really quite simple. You could
accomplish it in a single day by volunteering some time. Chances
are you will find great reward in working alongside your fellow
brothers and sisters in the work of God’s kingdom.
There are many opportunities to be involved at Christ Church.
You could volunteer time to help with a project for the homeless
shelter, or assist the youth group, perhaps volunteer time in
the office, or with the health ministry, or one of the many other
outreaches of the church. If you are musically inclined, perhaps
you want to join our music ministry. For those who love to sing,
you should consider being a part of the choir. They are a welcoming
group that would love to have you join them in singing the praises
of God through anthems from the 17th-21st century. Rehearsals
are on Thursday nights from 7:30-9:30pm. They meet again on Sunday
morning at 10:15am to warm-up and rehearse before singing at the
11:00am service. For instrumentalists in the congregation, I invite
you to be involved by offering a prelude before the service. This
is an opportunity to help fellow members enter into prayerful
preparation for worship. If you are good with rhythm and love
the sound of bells, then perhaps you would be interested in helping
us create a handbell choir. If you would like to be involved in
any of these music ministries at Christ Church, please contact
me by email, phone, or talk with me on a Sunday morning.
The ministry of the church is far greater than what can be done
by pastors and staff. From the very beginning of the Church it
has been a communal ministry that reflects God’s love. So, I suggest
that we restart 2012 with a resolution that will not only improve
our success rate but will also improve the ministry of our church
and the world around us. This is a resolution that answers Christ’s
call for us to follow Him and be workers in His vineyard. I hope
you will consider being a more active part of our ministry here
at Christ Church, and in so doing help us spread God’s love and
further His kingdom.
Soli Deo Gloria!
Daniel
