Pastors & Staff
John Sabatelli, Pastor
Pastor Sabatelli a native of New York, is a graduate of the City University of New York and our seminary in Philadelphia. He and his wife, Jane, have two grown children and two grandchildren. Ordained in 1971 he became the pastor of Christ Church in 1983. Raised in the church, his decision to become a pastor was a natural outgrowth of his faith and the positive experiences he had with the church and his pastors as a young person. On May 20, 2007 Pastor Sabatelli received a Doctorate of Divinity Honoris Causa by the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia for his outstanding leadership and faithful commitment not only to Christ Church, but also the wider church community, including the Delaware-Maryland Synod and the ELCA. His favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:28, "We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose."

Phillip C. Huber, Interim Associate Pastor
Pastor Huber was born and raised in Baltimore City. He is a graduate of Northern High School, Towson University, The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and did doctoral studies in Missiology at The Graduate Institute, Cincinnati, OH. His passion in ministry is helping congregational systems transform for the primary calling of "putting the face of Jesus in front of those who do not know him, and strengthening the discipleship and missional calling of those who do." Pastor Huber serves as the Chair, Board of Publications, American Society of Missiology and is a member of the Association of Professors of Mission. In 1996 he was Visiting Professor of Mission and Cultural Anthropology at Tumaini University, Iringa, Tanzania, where he helped with faculty development of this new Lutheran University that has now become a flourishing school of higher learning in East Africa. He also serves as Pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Southwest, Washington, DC, leading them in a missional redevelopment of their property. Pastor Huber is married to Karen Adkins and between them they have 7 adult children, 10 grandchildren and a wonderful "morning newspaper fetching" yellow lab named Andy.

Breonna Roberts, Assistant Pastor
Pastor Roberts is a native of Tucson, Arizona, and a consummate nerd. She is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where she studied molecular and cellular biology, and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, California. Pastor Roberts, her husband Ryan (a ministerial son of Christ Church who is also a pastor) and their beautiful daughter are excited to see what God is up to at Christ Church. Pastor Roberts began her ministry in July 2010 and has the privilege to work with the Confirmation program, Youth Group, and Contemporary Worship, as well as the Young Adult and Young Family programs. She has a soft spot for second-hand shopping, the performing arts, scrapbooking, and planning the next road trip with her family.

Daniel Aune , Director of Music
Daniel was born and raised in rural Minnesota, and is a lifelong Lutheran.  While working on his undergraduate degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, he had the privilege of singing in the Concordia Choir under the direction of Dr. Rene Clausen. Daniel has two masters degrees from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, one in organ and one in harpsichord, and has also earned a Sacred Music Diploma.  He has recently completed the work for his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Eastman with a major in organ performance and a minor in composition. He enjoys being part of a downtown church committed to excellence in worship and vibrant social ministry.

Carlien Parlett, Director of Christian Education
Carlien joined the Christ Church staff in July of 2004. She brings with her a wealth of experience and degrees in church music, nursing and religious education, as well as, an extensive background in technology. Carlien is responsible for the Christian Education program for children, birth through fifth grade, and post high school adults. She also oversees the children's music program, nursery care providers during worship, the Christ Church Nursery School and so much more. Carlien has two grown children and a grandson who has become the absolute delight of her life.

Karen Adkins, Director of Social Ministry
Karen received her Master's and Doctorate degrees from the University of Maryland in Social Work. Prior to her work here, Karen taught at the College of Notre Dame and worked as a therapist in private practice. Karen is married to a Lutheran pastor, Phil Huber and they enjoy their seven adult children. Karen oversees the many outreach and benevolence programs Christ Church is involved with. In 2002, a separate non-profit corporation, Baltimore Outreach Services, was formed. Current programs include a forty bed homeless shelter for women and children, six transitional houses, after school reading programs in local elementary schools, job training and educational programming for homeless women. There are many opportunities to serve God and those in need here. "Where's God calling you to serve?"

Linda Citroni, Parish Nurse
Linda is a native of Pennsylvania where she grew up in another Christ Lutheran Church. Church, faith, and family have always been an important part of her life. Along with a background in medical surgical nursing and home health nursing, Linda also has a Masters degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College. As a Parish Nurse, her healing and caring ministry offers a variety of programs, support and educational opportunities that encourage and promote health and healing for body, mind, and spirit. Linda has two adult sons, two lovely daughter-in-laws, and five wonderful step-children. Believe it or not she now boasts five grandchildren! Linda and her husband, Adrian, feel blessed to be a part of the Christ Church family.

Edward Kim, Contemporary Lead Musician
Edward is a talented pianist and violinist and he plays regularly for his home church, Bethel Korean Presbyterian Church in Ellicott City. While at Dartmouth College, Edward was part of a Christian community called LOGOS, where he played for worship and lead the group, and organized behind the scenes. Later, during his 8-months abroad in Qatar as a Fulbright scholar, he also served Grace Fellowship, a non-denominational Christian fellowship in the country despite not yet being acknowledged officially by the State of Qatar. He is currently attending the University of Maryland, College Park and pursing a Masters degree in Collaborative Piano Performance.
